WHAT TO DO WHEN A DOG BITES

  • Get Medical Attention

    If you or a loved one is bitten by a dog, please make sure to get medical attention. Not only may the bite potentially break the skin, there is the possibility for nerve, tendon, or ligament damage. It is important to get the care you need early.

  • Contact the Police

    To properly document the event, it is best to call your local law enforcement agency in order for them to create a police report to memorialize what happened before, during, and after the attack.

  • Contact Animal Control

    In effort to best protect from future harm to yourself or others, it is ideal to enlist the assistance of animal control. You may learn that you were not the first person to endure a traumatic interaction with the attacking canine. You may also prevent such horrible event taking place in the future to a stranger or someone you know.

  • Obtain Witness Contact Information

    If there is a witness present, ensure to have them provide you with their contact information. If present when the police arrive, make sure that a statement is taken.
